Inetimi Timaya Odon (born 15 August 1988) is better known under the stage name Timaya is a Nigerian music producer and singer. He is from Odi, Bayelsa state. He is the creator of DM Records Limited.
His solo career started in 2005, with the release the single “Dem Mama”, which was also included in his first album True Story released the following year.
The second album he released, Gift and Grace. Gift and Grace was released in the year 2008.
In the meantime, he gained more recognition and global fame with his third album, De Rebirth, which was released in collaboration with Black Body Entertainment, and the lead single “Plantain Boy”.
The two albums were both commercially profitable. They also earned him some cash from which he worked together with Dem Mama Soldiers on the album LLNP (Long Life N Prosperity).
The year 2012 saw Timaya came out with Upgrade, that led to the smash the hits “Bum Bum”, “Sexy Ladies””Sexy Ladies” and “Malonogede”.

Timaya Early life
Inetimi Timaya Omon was born the 15th of August 1981 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was a member of a large family, the youngest of 15 children living in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt.
He was the son of a banker, and his mother was an entrepreneur. To begin his education, Odon attended Assemblies of God Nursery and Primary School.
His secondary school education started with Nkpolu Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt. He would frequently override house rules to go to late-night concerts.
Before Timaya could finish school, his mother made arrangements that he travel along with his elder brother and younger sister from Lagos.
When he moved to the city and receiving admission, he was accepted into Lagos’ Ikeja Grammar School and eventually earned an academic certificate for secondary school. Baby Ariel Net Worth
Timaya was later back in Port Harcourt to study Banking and Finance at the Tertiary-level however, he failed in the examinations and was dismissed in the his first semester.
Timaya then relocated into Lagos for a stint with Eedris Abdulkareem’s hiphop band as a backup singer. After three years with Eedris, Timaya departed from the group in order to pursue his own solo career.
He began recording collaborations with other up-and-coming artists and also made his first appearance in a unreleased music video from UDX which is a Lagos-based rapper group.
He later got to know the producer Obaksolo within Mafoluku, Oshodi, who created his first big hit single “Dem Mama” after hearing him sing the rendition in a cappella.
He collaborated alongside Namse Udosen (Menthol X) on the track “Pomporo” on his first album, True Story.
In an interview that was posted in August 2013 Timaya declared: “‘Dem Mama’ was an account of the 1999 destruction of Odi, a river side community in Niger Delta.
Soldiers were hunting down militants they alleged killed eight policemen. The village was burnt down and numerous people killed. I bravely tackled the issue years later and won instant street credibility for my boldness.”

After the huge success with “Dem Mama”, Timaya decided to work with K-Solo as a producer. He composed seven additional songs for his debut album, True Story, which was finally launched in 2007.
The following year, Timaya began work on his second album, which he produced with Phyno, Jeggs, Spankie, Akeem D Beat, Obaksolo and Terry G.
The album was released in 2008, titled Gift and Grace was released in stores across the nation. Timaya received the following awards “Album of the Year” at the Nigeria Music Awards and “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” at the Headies Awards.
He also received two awards “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” for Gift and Grace and “Best Collaboration” for his performance in J Martins’ “Good or Bad (O Wey)” in the 2009 . edition of the Headies.
In 2011, two years after the release of his debut album, Timaya released his third album, De Rebirth and its hit single “Plantain Boy”.
Its recording was managed by Akeem D Beat, Phyno, Flux, M-Yire Jay Sleek, N.D, Jesse Jagz, and Obaksolo.

In November of 2011, Timaya released LLNP (Long Life And Prosperity), the album he recorded with his band, Dem Mama Soldiers.
The album’s second single “Dem No Like Me” featured a guest appearance from the legendary reggae artist Ras Kimono. On June 25, 2012 Timaya came out with a album of 14 tracks titled Upgrade.
The album was a major success “Bum-Bum”, “Sexy Ladies”, “Bum Bum” and “Malonogede”. The album also features collaborative tracks with Attitude, Terry G and Vector.
Duncan Mighty and Timaya dueted on “I Know I Know Dat” The song was leaked to the internet only a couple of hours after the latter’s Album Footprints was released to stores.
They were honored on the fourth annual Odudu Music Awards, along with M-Trill, Sodi Cookey, Becky Enyioma and Timi Dakolo.
The singer-songwriter in 2014 debuted the fifth album of his studio called Epiphany. It was a 20-tracker featuring international hits, including “Bum Bum Remix” (featuring Dancehall A-Lister Sean Paul), “Sanko””Sanko” and “Ukwu”.
The album included 2baba, Patoranking, Olamide Sir Shina Peters, Deethi, Phyno and Terry G.[19{] In the year 2017 Timaya was on stage in Nassau, Bahamas, where he was the headliner of the first ever Afro-Soca Concert.
After five year of making singles and performing, Timaya released an EP called Chulo Vibes (2019). The project featured collaborations with East African artist Alikiba, Trinidadian Soca legend Machel Montano and Nigeria’s Burna Boy.

Timaya created his own recording label DM Records Limited. He coached aspiring artists like Patoranking as well as Runtown. In 2017, he signed young Dancehall/Afro-Fusion artiste, King Perryy to the DM Records imprint.
